Wide enough to open both car doors without hitting anything, which in practice is 5.4m to 6.6m for two vehicles. Measure the driveway at its narrowest point and send that number; the kit is cut to it.
02Does a double carport need a post in the middle?
Not across the opening. The beam is sized to carry the full width, and the extra posts on a double sit along its length rather than between the two bays, so you are not reversing around steel.
03Can I park a boat under a double instead of a second car?
That is a common use for the second bay. Measure the trailer at its longest and the boat at its tallest, including anything on a canopy, and send both with your driveway width.
04Is a double cheaper than two single carports?
